A community outreach trip to Cameroon a few years ago kickstarted a passion for sustainable development. While my experience in the field demonstrated to me that genuine efforts are being made to advance human development around the world, seeing the practical side of it has also taught me that development is rarely straightforward. The current system of international cooperation for development has inherent and endemic flaws, presenting challenges to how sustainable and effective it can be. I continue to pursue international development from an academic perspective as well, to understand and deconstruct the complexities involved in its practical implementation. With my contribution to TEMA, I hope to raise awareness for development in its various forms, and to contribute to the discourse around its sustainability.
